Pernia and Sopko win the York Half Marathon

By Clay Shaw

York, PA, May 15, 2022—Nolan Pernia of Pittsburgh easily won the half marathon in 1:13:35.  Pernia, sporting a University of Pittsburgh (“Pitt”) top, was a two-sport star at Quakertown HS.  (Tennis and Track & Field).  Patrick Carter of Washington, DC was second in 1:18:03.  David Wannlund of Arlington, VA was third in 1:20:59.  Jonathan Lantz of New Holland was fourth in 1:25:54.  Ian Maurer of Etters was fifth in 1:27:29.

Camryn Sopko of York won the half marathon in 1:26:25. Amanda Beal of Ellicott City, MD was second and top master in 1:29:52.  Susan Barrett of Pittsburgh was third in 1:32:57.  Vanessa Andes of Mountville was fourth in 1:35:36.  Kathryn Miller of Lititz was fifth and second master in 1:36:33.

The York Half Marathon had 329 total finishers.  In 2022, we tried to photograph both races, with mixed results.  Some marathoners look better at the 12 and 14 mile mark than they do at mile 25. (LOL).   With the demise of both the Spartan Half and the Double Creek Half, York could use another half-marathon or two on other dates, perhaps as prep for nearby marathons.
