Freddi Carlip has been running since 1978 and is the publisher/editor of Runner’s Gazette. As print has given way to digital, Freddi is determined to give RG readers everything they expect from the print version…and more. Freddi is a former president of the Road Runners Club of America after starting as the PA State Rep, and a former board member of USATF. She was a founding member of the Buffalo Valley Striders, and its first president. In 1979, Freddi originated the role of Miss Road Manners to acquaint runners with the rules of the road, track, and trail. Freddi, known as Bubbie by her grandkids, is the mom of two adult children, writes a social column for the local paper,  is a native Philadelphian, and bleeds green for her team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Karen Mitchell is well known for her excellent race photography, having covered international, national, and regional races for many years.  She is the news director/editor, photographer, and website administrator for Runner’s Gazette.  She was the president of the York Road Runners Club and the race director of the York White Rose Run 5 Miler, a Pennsylvania race that was established in 1977.   Karen has run marathons all over the world, having completed 125 marathons in all.  She completed a marathon in all 50 states and DC in 2011.  She is a Penn State Master Gardener, a mom and a grandmom.  Karen is an avid cyclist and traveler.

Clay Shaw, Photo Editor and Journalist, is a marathon runner, professional photographer, elite athlete coordinator, race director, and world traveler.

Clay Shaw is the first Pennsylvania runner to run a marathon in each of the 50 states and DC  (June 1995).  At the same time he became the first to finish all 50 state marathons under four hours.  (50<4)

Clay added the 13 provinces and territories of Canada to the completion list in 2002.  He has run a marathon on 6 of the 7 continents and in 23 different countries.  He was the overall winner of the 1993 Wyoming Marathon (7130 to 8600 ft elevation) and the 2000 Nunavut Marathon in Arctic Bay (450 miles north of the Arctic Circle).  His personal best for the marathon is 2:53:51 at the 1984 Manitoba Marathon in Winnipeg on 6/17/1984.  He was born in San Francisco, California (and proud of it).  He moved to Pennsylvania in 1973 and married Karen Mitchell in 1997 in Albuquerque. NM.  He was inducted into the York Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

Clay’s first photo job was team photographer for the Golden State Warriors.  He also photographed for various publications at home games of the Washington Wizards (formerly Bullets), Philadelphia 76ers, Washington Capitals, and Philadelphia Eagles.  In the running world Clay and Karen have been staff photographer for several well known races such as Run For the Diamonds, Broad Street Run, Steamboat Classic, Falmouth Road Race, Bolder Boulder, Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, and several regional events.  Clay has been working for Runner’s Gazette since Freddi became the owner.
