Gaitho and Naibei Win the 42nd Broad Street Run

May 1, 2022, Philadelphia, PA, 42nd Blue Cross Broad Street 10 Mile Run—Robert Gaitho of Kenya won the Broad Street 10 Mile Run in 45:43.  Gaitho was running with a pack of five fellow Kenyans for the first part of the race on North Broad St.  At City Hall Gaitho’s only company was Sila Kiptoo who was a step behind entering South Broad Street.  Kiptoo finished in 46:00.  Shadrack Keter of Kenya was third in 46:26. Dennis Kipkosgei of Kenya, the 2021 champ was fourth in 46:41.  Vincent Kipchumba made it a top five Kenya sweep with a 47:01.  Kipchumba has a 2:04:36 marathon best (London 2021).  Ernie Pitone of Springfield, PA was sixth in 48:05.  Alfredo Jose Santana of Philadelphia, who represents Puerto Rico was seventh in 48:50.  Sergio Reyes of Palmdale, CA was top master and eleventh overall in 49:36. Reyes set a new Broad Street Run masters record.

Sarah Naibei of Kenya won in 52:04 setting a new course record.  Amber Zimmerman of Philadelphia was second in 52:40. Zimmerman, a native of Knoxville, TN, ran a 2:36:30 at the Houston Marathon in January 2022. Damaris Areba of Kenya was third in 53:00.  Jenna Mulhern, a senior at Henderson High School in West Chester, PA was fourth in 54:15.  Mulhern, 18, will be attending Furman University in the fall.  Carmen Graves of Denver, CO was fifth in 56:06, she won the Penn Relays OD Steeplechase in 9:46.  Twin sisters finished sixth and seventh.  Cleo Whiting of Washington, DC was sixth in 56:20.  Clarissa Whiting of Philadelphia was seventh in 56:23.  Jen Maranzano of Washington, DC was top master in 1:00:35.

The Blue Cross Broad Street Run has returned to its usual spring date, after missing 2020, and running in October of 2021. The 2022 event had 20,276 finishers.

Amber Zimmerman of Philadelphia finished second in 52:40, in the second fastest time ever at BSR. Zimmerman who ran at the University of New Mexico, is having an outstanding 2022.

Jen Maranzano of Washington, DC is top master in 1:00:35, placing 29th.
Alfredo Jose Santana of Philadelphia finishes seventh in 48:50. Santana represents Puerto Rico in athletics.
Sergio Reyes of Palmdale, CA sets a new BSR masters record of 49:36. Reyes who is 40, was eleventh overall.
Jenna Mulhern, 18, of West Chester, PA finishes fourth in 54:15. Mulhern is a senior at Henderson High School. The Philadelphia Eagles band approves.
Carmen Graves of Denver, CO places fifth in 56:06. Graves won the Olympic Development Steeplechase at Penn Relays.
Kerry Allen of Washington, DC was eighth in 56:35.
Shannon McCarthy of Hoboken, NJ sprints toward the finish line in 57:58 to place 15th.
Abby Dean of Wilmington, DE places first among 50-year-olds, as usual. Dean ran 1:01:34 and was 37th.
Our granddaughter Maggie Crouse is thrilled to run her first Broad Street Run. Proud Grandpa Clay was happy to have a few moments with “Mags” before the race.
