For yours truly it was my 209th marathon and Karen’s 126th. At 70, it could be our last, who knows. It was nice to experience a new part of Louisiana. Small marathons usually have a friendlier vibe. Zydeco was just that, and we highly recommend this race as a choice for Louisiana. On my two trips around the 50 states, and Karen’s one trip, it was New Orleans twice. We did Big Beach Marathon in Gulf Shores, AL in January, after a similar two in Birmingham. LOL, I guess Mississippi is next after two in Jackson.
Kudos to race director Mike Howard, his wife, and an incredible race committee and volunteers. We also noticed the wonderful participation and cooperation of the city police, who staffed the entire course to keep runners, volunteers, and residents safe for many hours. We loved the finisher medals, that looked like record albums (in the Zydeco theme).
