Gerstenbacher and Dean Win 15K

Wilmington, DE, October 24, 2021—The races start south of Riverfront Wilmington and go up the boardwalk and past the DuPont Environmental Education Center, then down the boards through the marshes of the Peterson Refuge Boardwalk, all part of the Jack A Markell Trail.  The out-and-back course turns around, north of New Castle.

Samuel Gerstenbacher of Lancaster, PA won the Wilmington, Delaware event easily, in 47:13.  Gerstenbacher, running for F & M, ran with second-place runner Ethan Hermann of Philadelphia for the first part of the race.  Garrett Patrick of Baltimore, MD was third in 49:46.   Connor Harriman of Philadelphia was fourth in 51:51.  Jean Paul Gagliardi of West Chester was fifth and top master in 52:57.  141 runners finished the 15K, with long of talented age group athletes participating.

Abby Dean of Wilmington, DE was first woman overall.  Abby is 50, and of course was top master as well. Olivia DeRogatis of West Chester, PA was second in 58:08.  Sara Girotto of Wynnewood, PA was third overall in 58:49; she is also a masters athlete.  Maddy Evans of West Chester, PA was fourth in 1:00:23.  Kara Forwood of Chesterbrook, PA was fifth in 1:00:26.

Matt Cutrona of Wilmington, DE won the 5K in 18:49, as did Allison Delaney of Newark, DE in 22:47. Another 44 finished the 5K.

The Delaware Distance Classic 15K starts and finishes with this little hill, but is nearly all flat. A good place for a 15K PR.

William Rose of Wilmington, DE heads up the Riverwalk. He would place 3rd 60-64 in 1:07:09.

Olivia DeRogatis of West Chester, PA places second overall among women in 58:08.
Garrett Patrick of Baltimore, MD and the Falls Road Racing Team, placed third overall in 49:46.
Zach Valentine of Wilmington, DE placed 7th in 54:39. He might be hoping the young lady keeps a firm grip on the pup’s leash.
Maddy Evans of West Chester, PA gets ready to have a great finish. Evans placed 4th woman overall in 1:00:23.
Hyunsun Reilly of Bel Air, MD was sixth woman overall in 1:01:09. Reilly was one of three masters in the top six.
Jennifer Dembeck of West Chester, PA placed 9th among women, and was one of five masters in the top nine.
Anabelle Broadbent of Perkasie, PA placed 13th among women and second in her age group in 1:08:02.
Dave Broadbent of Perkasie, PA won the 70-74 age group in 1:14:22.
