Levy and Wenger win the Sasquatch Preservation10K Trail Run; Nicole Register and Shimmel win the 5K

9.12.2026 Seven Valleys, PA—As usual on Sasquatch Day, Runner’s Gazette covered two events:  the Sasquatch Preservation Trail Run 10K and 5K and the Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon on back roads in Lancaster, PA.  We don’t need to do a coin toss; Clay loves to do BIH and I love to do Sasquatch on South Branch Farms in York County, PA, owned by the Kinsley family who graciously extends a welcome to many trail runners – this year to 143 10K finishers and 259 5K finishers.

There is rich history behind this event:

Sasquatch began as a 5K cross country-type course held on a Farm and Natural Lands Trust (FNLT)-preserved farm in Mount Wolf, PA and continued every September from 2011-2017 when the nomadic Sasquatch appeared to be moving south. An additional event, Thoroughbred 10K, had been added and run every October from 2013-2016. Thoroughbred was hosted by FNLT and the Kinsley family on FNLT-preserved South Branch Farms in Seven Valleys, PA, every October. In 2017 the two events morphed into the current Sasquatch 5K and 10K every September on South Branch Farms.

So what is FNLT? 

“Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County is a private, non-profit land preservation organization specializing in conservation easements – a deed restriction that restricts and limits development on private property, while protecting important resources such as soils, woodlands, streams and more.” 

The Sasquatch races support this mission every year.

The Races

I am lucky to have great support of my photography.  Specifically, the Kinsley staff drives me from place to place, a feat I could not accomplish fast enough on foot.  We go from the start to the spot where all of the runners – 5K and 10K –first come out onto the long driveway.  After capturing photos there, we head to the scary swinging bridge across the Codorus Creek, then the late-race creek crossing which was very shallow this year, so difficult for the runners to make splashes, but still quite refreshing.  We leave there and photograph runners doing the horse jump. 

I make my way back on foot, capturing more photos – the Kinsley family and runners – and eventually join the runners as they celebrate their success together and enjoy a terrific feast provided by Rockfish Public House – Jeremiah Anderson and family.  There’s also beer, fruit and more.

And a huge thanks to race director Sean Kenny and lots of volunteers.
