Rose and Alter win York Rail Trail 10 Miler

9.22.26 Seven Valleys to York, PA—Nathaniel Alter of Lancaster and the Red Rose Track Club won the 28th York Rail Trail 10 Miler in 54:44. Alter burst out of Seven Valleys with a big lead and increased it throughout the race to win handily. Matt Wehrle of Halifax, PA was second in 57:30, with third place runner Ross Kidd of Arbutus, MD credited with the same time of 57:30. Jesse Magolon of Fredrick, MD was fourth in 1:01:20. Devin Mercer of Thomasville, PA was third in 1:02:32.

David Rizzuto of York, at age 60, won the masters and was sixth overall in 1:02:42. Another awesome age graded worthy performance, as he topped all the forty- and fifty-year-olds.

Kelly Rose of York won the York 10 Miler for the second time in her career, winning a close race in 1:08:41.  Joanna Hayes of Dillsburg was second and top master in 1:08:59. Sarah Wenger of Dallastown was third overall and second master in 1:11:11.  17-year-old Annette Flinchbaugh of Hellam was fourth overall in 1:13:25. Angela Coco of Railroad, PA was fifth in 1:14:43. In my photos I had two other women in the top five, but they were just training on the rail trail.

A good crowd of 315 finishers completed the York Rail Trail 10 miler in a summer that was rather absent of races. Runners came from many other states including nearby Maryland, along with Wisconsin, Texas, Vermont, Virgina, New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

Seven Valleys, PA was the start of the 28th York Rail Trail 10 miler. A tiny hill and a few turns and then on the trail all the way to York.
Kelly Rose of York was the women’s champion in 1:08:41.
Nathaniel Alter of Lancaster has a huge lead just past the two-mile mark, which he increased throughout the race to win in 54:44.
Matt Wehrle of Halifax was second overall in 57:30.
Joanna Hayes of Dillsburg was second overall and top master in 1:08:59.
Ross Kidd of Arbutus, MD was third overall in 57:30.
Annette Flinchbaugh of Hellam, age 17, was fourth overall in 1:13:25.
Jesse Magolon of Frederick, MD was fourth in 1:01:20.
Angela Coco of Railroad, PA was fifth in 1:14:43.

Monea Abdul-Majeed of York was ninth overall in 1:19:23.
Penny Hornock of York. It’s not the Squirrely Tail event, but Penny loves animals. She scored second in the 65-69 group.
Todd McClimans of York was twelfth overall in 1:07:07. Todd is the York Suburban Middle School XC coach.
Allie Becker, Emily Tollinger, and Chloe Tollinger, all of York and all matching, enjoy the York 10 Miler.
Andrea Cap of York ran strong in the final miles to place 14th in 1:23:39.

Michael Ball of York wins the 70+ group in 1:40:25 with Les Bell chasing him all the way.
Shawn Godack of York ran 1:27:18, and a reminder that the Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon is coming up on Sept 12.
Steven Zinn #307 and David Levy, both of York, run the York Rail Trail 10 Miler in 1:27:54. Levy ran a 100 miler earlier this summer.
Noah Yun of York was 22nd in 1:09:28.
