Addisu Yihune sets course record in BAA 5K

Boston, MA 4.18.26—Addisu Yihune of Ethiopia set a new course record of 13:14 in winning the BAA 5k on a course that travelled through Boston’s Back Bay and finished at the famous Boylston Street finish line.

Mezgebu Sime of Ethiopia was second in 13:21. Edwin Kurgat of Kenya was third in 13:23. Cooper Teare of Blacksburg, VA was fourth and top American in 13:25. Patrick Kiprop of Kenya was fifth in 13:26.

Gela Hambest of Ethiopia was tops among women for the second straight year in 15:28. Rachel Smith of Flagstaff, AZ fought hard to top Katie Izzo, also of Flagstaff, to take second by inches, both timed at 15:33. Lea Meyer of Germany was fourth in 15:35. Katie Camarena of Ramona, CA was fifth in 15:37.

The BAA 5K takes place early Saturday morning, with over 10,000 entrants.  9281 of them scored as finishers.  The Boston Marathon finish line structures would get lots of practice on Saturday, as kids runs, and pro milers took to the streets later in the morning.

Katelyn Tuohy of Flagstaff, AZ finishes tenth in 15:53.
Elizabeth Talbi of Colorado Springs was fifteenth in 16:18. Her husband Zouhair Tabi got a new USA Marathon record of 2:03:45 on Patriot’s Day.
Cooper Teare of Blacksburg, VA finishes fourth and top American in 13:25.
Thomas Fafard of Canada was eighth in 13:36.
