New Haven, CT, September 5, 2022—We had plans to cover the 44th running of the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race in 2022, but sometimes things happen. We certainly hope to finally make it in 2023. It wasn’t the weather that kept us from making the trip, and fortunately for the race, the big rains came before and after, but the humidity was nearly 100%. We followed the race remotely, thanks to friends who posted on Twitter. A special thank you to Mike Scott for his great photos.

Keira D’Amato, the USA record holder for the marathon (2:19:12), and Emily Sisson, the USA record holder for the half-marathon (1:07:11), were the favorites. The two ran hard and fast from the beginning, and soon it was as expected – a two-woman duel. D’Amato seemed to grab as much water as she could, while Sisson just ran with maybe a slight lead. D’Amato won in 1:04:29 a New Haven 20K event record, surpassing Colleen de Reuck’s 1:05:11 set in New Haven in 1998. Sisson was second in 1:04:35. Nell Rojas of Boulder, CO was third in 1:07:02. Annie Frisbie of Hopkins, MN was fourth in 1:07:17. The 2021 New Haven 20K champion Erika Kemp of Allston, MA was fifth in 1:07:44.

Conner Mantz of Provo, UT led the entire way to win the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race 20K in 59:08. Mantz, from Utah, expressed how brutal the humidity was. Leonard Korir of Colorado Springs was second in 59:13. Korir had three previous wins at this race. Sam Chelanga, also of Colorado Springs was third in 59:15. Shadrack Kipchirchir, also from the US Army team based in Colorado Springs, was fourth in 59:18. Biya Simbassa of Flagstaff, AZ was fifth in 59:19.

D’Amato will run the Berlin Marathon on Sept 25.  Mantz and Sisson will make their marathon debuts in Chicago on Oct 9.
