HARRISBURG, PA, SEPTEMBER 12 and 13, 2020—Kudos to the Harrisburg YMCA for going through the rules and changes that allowed this long-time favorite event to take place. The 2020 version of the Harrisburg Half started and finished on City Island, and ran on the bridges and the Capital Area Greenbelt. Socially distant start-time staggers were in place between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on both days of the weekend. Saturday was dark and misty and Sunday was bright and sunny. Times of all starters on both days were chipped and therefore a time trial for the 348 finishers.
Kyle Phillips of Waynesboro won in 1:11:05; he ran in the first group on Sunday. Fred Joslyn of Boiling Springs, PA ran 1:11:10 to place second, running on Saturday (and working as a volunteer Sunday). Matthew Persick of Carlisle was third in 1:12:34. Luis Miranda of Lebanon was fourth in 1:16:23. Thomas Johnson of Springfield, VA was fifth in 1:21:12. Fifty-seven-year-old Tim Schuler of Lititz, led the Masters in 1:25:27. Four Masters runners in their early forties finished right behind Schuler.
Nikki Martin of Chambersburg led the women in 1:24:56. Only seven men finished with faster times than Martin. Lindsay Pridgen of Mechanicsburg was second in 1:33:33. Colleen Deignan of Harrisburg was third in 1:36:40. Shari Watson of Camp Hill was fourth and top master in 1:39:51. Fifteen-year-old Chloe Warrell of Mechanicsburg was fifth in 1:40:43.
The Harrisburg Marathon will be using this course on November 7th and 8th.
