Rotich, Rowbury Rock USA 5K Championships at Abbott Dash to the Finish Line

New York, NY, NOVEMBER 2, 2019—Anthony Rotich of Colorado Springs, Colorado put in a final surge to win a very close race with Aaron Templeton of Boulder, CO.  Rotich and Templeton were both recorded officially at 13:48.  Eric Jenkins of Portland, OR was a close third in 13:50 in an extremely competitive field.  2018 champ Shadrack Kipchirchir of Colorado Springs was fourth in 13:54.  Jordan Mann of Providence, RI was fifth in 13:54.

Tariku Demelash Abera of Ethiopia wins the citizens part of the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line. Daniel Winn of New York was one second back in 14:27, as over 10,000 runners finished behind them.

Shannon Rowbury of San Francisco, CA was the women’s champion in 15:43.  Jessica Tonn of Scottsdale, AZ was second in 15:44.  Emily Infeld of Portland, OR was third in 15:47.  Shalaya Kipp, a US citizen living in Vancouver, BC, was fourth in 15:50.  Ayla Granados of Castro Valley, CA was fifth in 15:53.

Ayla Granados of Castro Valley, California finish fifth in 15:53. Erika Kemp of Brookline, MA is 6th in 15:55. Aisling Cuffe of Providence, RI finished 8th in 15:55. Stephanie Garcia of Sacramento was 9th in 15:56 in this extremely competitive race. (I lived in Castro Valley with my grandparents for two years in grade school.)

Aisling Cuffe of Providence, Rhode Island was 8th in 15:55 in the USA 5K Championships.

The Abbott Dash to the Finish Line, held early on the Saturday morning prior to the NYC Marathon, drew 10,329 finishers in a mass people’s race held just after the elite races.  Tariku Demelash Abera of Ethiopia won in 14:26, just edging Daniel Winn of New York (14:27).  There was $60,000 in prize money, the most of any 5K in the world.
