10.17.26 Baltimore, MD—Nicole Shelton of Morristown, NJ was a surprise winner, coming from behind in the final 400 meters to win in 2:53:06. Shelton, who had lived in Dover, PA (York County) was running second throughout the race. Maeve Thistel of Lancaster, PA had been leading the marathon throughout. It was assumed that she would be the winner and the finish line tape was set up for her. With at least two women half-marathoners already having finished, Shelton blended right in with her strong finish, and missed out on breaking the tape, but did win the marathon. Thistel who seemed happy breaking the tape, was second in 2:53:32. Emma Puetz of Baltimore was third in 2:56:23. Shannon Cebron of Baltimore was fourth in 2:57:51. Phoebe White of Baltimore was fifth in 3:00:44. The first master was Margaret Powers of Pittsburgh in 3:08:58.

Devin Horseman-Guy of Baltimore was a happy winner as he crossed the finish line in 2:25:18. Patrick Blair of Catonsville, MD kept Horseman-Guy company for a large portion of the marathon; he finished second in 2:28:47 and was first master. Ryan Fan of Baltimore was third in 2:32:21, a new personal best. Andrew Cantor of Kensington, MD was fourth in 2:32:50. Braxton Clark, Jr. of Salisbury, MD was fifth in 2:33:05.

2070 runners finished the marathon on a brisk morning in the city. Kudos to Liz Noel Duncan of Baltimore, who I met at the Dubai Marathon in 2010, on her 100^th marathon.
