January 2026
Thursday begins a new yea
Welcomed in loud cheer
In January we begin anew
With a 2026 fresh clean view.
For me, it’s my 53rd run year
Road running in steady gear
Many miles on the open road
Pursuing a daily run episode.
Every year I start a new book
A running log worth a look
Back as Father Time moves on
Taking us to the next dawn.
My log books date back to 1992
Before that calendars were a clue
And a blank book told the miles
Earned with a few sweaty smiles.
January’s weather is often cold
And outside go the road bold
Dressed in gear that’s just right
For dealing with January’s plight.
January means a fresh new start
And runners perfect their art
By running along the roads
As New Year 2026 explodes.
January Views
January offers us a cold run
With pride when we’re done
Winter runners seize the day
Enjoying an occasional sun ray.
Winter runners note the daylight
That grows with each run flight
January steadily grows sun light
Despite the season’s wintry bite.
January views are winter scenes
Snowy cold hiding the yard greens
A January thaw is a nice touch
It melts that seasonal crutch.
Bare January roads are nice
Few enjoy running on ice
Crashing falls leave a bruise
Need no more says this Muse.
Snow piles are a January sight
Slowing melting with a fight
Snow piles linger until gone
They’re a dirty snow icon.
More daylight’s a January view
As darkness bids a slight adieu
January’s last day is a Saturday
As we move along the roadway
January Thoughts
January begins a new run year
Although the weather may jeer
Winter running is a good thing
Despite icy winds that do sting.
The key is: take it easy when bad
Winter weather makes many mad
But running gear today is first rate
It allows one to maintain a Go gait.
These days not every day’s run is poor
So, get dressed and head out the door
A January run heals our tired soul
We complete miles minus a hard toll.
January means there’s a new start
And since running is our sport art
We fix our issues and move on
Running towards the next dawn.
Eight years ago, my road thought
Involved ending racing a lot
Back nerve compression was bad
So, I did and now not at all sad.
I stopped racing but still run on
Daily running early and no yawn
January thoughts are always great
Very helpful keeping one straight.
