November 2024
Friday begins November’s run
Often with questionable sun
D.S.T ends on November 3rd
And so many offer the Bird!
The November day is short
Daylight is gone the retort
This guy runs in the dark
Enjoying his November lark.
The 5th is our Election Day
Yet, many vote another way
The final decision takes days
So, run out on the byways.
The 11th is Veteran’s Day
Their service always OK
We remember and run on
For me before the next dawn.
The 28th is Thanksgiving Day
We celebrate in a happy way
Family and friends together
Eying that November weather.
November can be a trying time
Dark, gray and out of rhyme
For me, it’s another season
Running on requires no reason.
BARE TREES
This year the leaves fell early
Because our weather was burly
So, November brings bare trees
Brown and stark on our sprees.
My pre-dawn run is very dark
However, I never need a spark
To get up and outside the door
Exploring the local road floor.
Leafy debris’ piled by the road
As I begin my running episode
Often the winds scatter them
And my shoes create mayhem.
Today, the only noise is my shoes
Crunching away singing the blues
Remembering those leafy greens
That once produced a road scene.
Now it’s November and we run on
Seeking that later autumn dawn
I see miles of brown bare trees
Thanks to Nature’s fall squeeze.
I can see deep into the woods
Since the trees shed their hoods
Bare trees are a November norm
A staple on the autumn platform.
DUMP THE TIME CHANGE
November 3 is a bad day
It brings time change our way
We’re back in the E.S.T. zone
And the crowd utters a moan.
Late fall daylight does get short
And many folks utter a retort
No daylight after work is bad
This time change makes few glad.
This twice a year change is bad
Late year darkness makes one mad
It’s time to pick one and then stay
Year-round time should be the way.
We tried year-round time back in ‘74
This was different running out my door
I adapted and steadily ran the roads
Yet protests greeted these time modes.
Technology is so much better now
But time changes are a sacred cow
Moving forward is a difficult task
As proponents wear a serious mask.
Dump the time change and run on
A standard time helps the yawn
This runner adapts to seasonal issues
He never needs the crying tissues.
THANKSGIVING DAY
Thanksgiving is on the 28th day
Many gather, celebrating in a way
That’s special to their mindset
And heralds the Christmas roulette.
This runner’s thankful for two guys
Miracle babies that created sighs
Twin grandsons and a new role
A smart grandfather is my goal.
Hopefully in several more years
Folks will hear without the jeers
My Grandpa runs every day
He’s out along the roadway.
Others are thankful for things
Magical and mystical with zings
Every day moving forward is good
Being grateful is easily understood.
A delicious meal is a great treat
Always pleasing this road athlete
Shared with family is always nice
Enjoy Thanksgiving is my advice!
Then, after dinner we move on
Many out on a Black Friday dawn
The rest will take a football nap
Too quickly is heard, that’s a wrap!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
