November 2023 Wednesday begins November’s run 30 days with minimal autumn sun Our trees have shed their leaves As the warm-weather folks grieve. Daylight is now a precious treasure In quantities very hard to measure My run is in the November dark Before dawn visits our road park. November’s weather is often fickle Sometimes warm then an icicle November’s rain can often freeze Creating icy roads and the ah geeze! Last year, November was mild Pleasing this road-running child Running early in cold weather Is an experience from the Nether. November begins the holiday season Fun festive times with good reason Now please get outside and explore The sights beyond your front door. November Stark This runner is up and out Exploring an early road route The morning dark is chilly My run is serious, never silly. November’s runs are very stark The foliage is gone on this lark November’s trees sway in the dark While standing there quite stark. I can see deep into the woods The trees shed their green hoods The critters lost their hiding spots Often startled during my road trots. Without leaves we see trees leaning Root issues often are the meaning We run by these trees with care Always run smart and run aware. Later on, when the sun is out November’s scene has clout A stark image never hides During our daily road rides. Time Change DST ends on November 5th With changes that are swift The time change brings dark With many now off their mark. For me running, I no longer care Fifty years on this running dare Means I continue running on Chasing the next morning dawn. Yet, this time change is dumb Days after many awake numb Messing with clocks is never good Many find their heads now wood. I run with a good road light Illuminating my daily flight Across the dark chilly roads Enjoying my outdoor episodes. After the change, I gain light For a while a grand delight Then my gained light fades Back to that dark fall Hades. A Mild Winter? Running outside is seldom easy The weather here gets sleazy Numerous ridges and steep hills Provide great running thrills. So, when we get weather news Especially those mild winter views This runner is happy and runs on Enjoying the dark before our dawn. It seems weather trends far away Will influence our weather day Warming ocean waters is the trend Meaning here a mild winter end. Last year, winter was very mild Pleasing this guy hating winter wild Especially dealing with back nerves While avoiding the crashing swerves. As I age, running on the icy street Doesn’t please this road athlete So, I seek mild winter road days With safer runs that always pay. November Thanks The 23rd is Thanksgiving Day A day filled with turkey play And family and friends gather As the late autumn leaves scatter. We pause and offer our thanks From the depths of the road ranks Thankful for our physical health Which improves our mental health. We’re thankful for all of our friends And families we hope never ends They keep us on the right path And warn us of weather’s wrath. We’re thankful we have a sport With results very hard to distort Lifelong running has great value So, lace up your running shoes. We’re thankful for the road sights That change with our road flights We’re thankful for a holiday meal So delicious with wide appeal.
