Autumn Begins Ready or not, here we go Our weather is never slow Autumn begins on the first Amidst a summer crying burst. Meteorological autumn is here Listen, do you hear a faint cheer? Many folks loathe fall’s season Perhaps for a mixed-up reason. Some only see the next season And winter is considered treason Yet, autumn’s beauty is great With running always first rate. This runner is out before dawn I do so without a common yawn 28 years as a dawn running guy Weekends before without a sigh. I love my daily autumn runs With views that truly stun I’m ready and running on In the dark before dawn. September 2023 Friday begins September’s run For this runner without the sun My September run is mostly dark Yet, it’s always an enjoyable lark. September fourth is our Labor Day Traditionally, summer now gives way To that delightful autumn season And outside running needs no reason. Meteorological autumn is in full swing Sadly, so many have a summer cling September 23 is the autumnal equinox And seasonal colors out of the box. Each new day grows our autumn sights As Mother Nature ramps up her flights Soon, autumn’s colors will take flame And homebound excuses are so lame. Autumn runs are again the real deal The views make our souls squeal September’s run only gets better Earning that perfect A+ letter. Apple Season Apples are a delicious fruit The varieties kind of cute And tasty in so many ways Hooray! We’re in apple days. Road running is hard work Out here those hills do lurk Calories fuel our daily run But some foods are not fun. Pasta is good but just heavy Too much and a quick bevy Of runners leave you in the dust While you accumulate rust. Apples are a portable food Designed to cure your mood Apples are prepared in ways That highlight our fall days. Now, a September apple pie Earns a sweet seasonal sigh I drink apple juice year round And buy apples by the pound. Apple season is a grand time With apples at lunch prime Yes, I enjoy September’s show With that apple crop all aglow. School Traffic September brings a traffic flow More vehicles not often slow School buses and vans are out Driving along my running route. Some schools days begin early Creating traffic not often curly I’m out running my early lark And buses pass me in the dark. Early on, some kids on bikes Peddle fast earning some Yikes! Youngsters walk to the bus stop As part of the educational crop. Many drivers honk and wave These drivers are quite brave Schools became a political thing So folks leave this rowdy sting. My morning roads again busy We share the road on my spree School is open and we move on Soon to feel autumn’s dawn.
