1.10.26 Tallahassee, FL—Kenya earned a perfect score, as they scored with the first four runners. Frankline Kibet won in 23:18 and was seldom seen on the 4-lap 8k course. Kibet was drafting behind his taller teammates. Emmanuel Kiprono was second in 23:20. Andrew Alamisi was third in 23:28. Andrew Kiptoo was fourth in 23:42, as Kenya scored a perfect ten. Uganda was second and the USA was third.
Kenya placed all six U20 men in the top ten; Uganda had the other four top ten finishers. Willem Renders of Belgium who won Euro XC U20 in Lagoa, Portugal was eleventh in 24:13. The USA third place team came from solid efforts by Tyler Daillak who placed sixteenth, despite running half the race without his right shoe. Jackson Spencer, the high school runner from Herriman, UT was eighteenth in 25:00. It was a good move to add the top NXN USA finishers to Team USA. Daniel Skandera was nineteenth in 25:02. Aidan Torres was 22nd in 25:20. Salvador Wirth was 30th in 25:39 and Dylan Maloney was 53rd in 27:03.
Sadly, Ethiopia who has had U20 team medals consistently since 1982, was represented by only one runner in the U20 men’s race. Australia was 4th, Great Britain was 5th, Japan was 6th, Spain was 7th, Canada was 8th, New Zealand was 9th, South Africa was 10th, and China was 11th. 69 athletes finished on the custom-made cross-country course at Apalachee Regional Park east of Tallahassee, Florida.
