5.26.25 York, PA—Kelly Rose of York won the Gold Star Memorial 5K in York in 19:27, winning by over 2 minutes. Rose won the Harrisburg Half-Marathon in September 2024.
The Gold Star Memorial 5k was run for the 15th time, and also has a 9-mile non-competitive run through York City, passing several war monuments. The Gold Star Gardens and Monument is located near Vander & Rockdale, at the edge of the Veterans Memorial/Hoffman Complex in the southeastern corner of York City.
David Levy of Etters won a closer race in 17:15. Levy is the manager of the Fleet Feet York store. Donovan Trauger of York finished second in 17:27, after leading earlier in the race. John Ford of Phoenix, MD was third in 18:00. David Rizzuto, 59 of York, led all masters in 18:46, placing sixth overall.
Taylor Mauro of York was second among women in 21:46. Maura Loht of York was third in 23:23. Heather Roe, the York Road Runners president, was top master and sixth overall in 24:32. Billie Kay Melanson, 71, of York was ninth in 25:33 and was second master. Kudos also to 9-year-old Ava Long of York who was eighth in 25:18.
Patti Stirk was the lead ElliptiGO, as the 15th running of the Gold Star Memorial 5k starts.
Donovan Trauger of York #160 leads the 2025 Gold Star 5k field at the start. Trauger won the 2024 event and was second in 2025, even though he was over a minute faster.
David Levy of Etters wins the 2025 Gold Star Memorial 5K in 17:15.
Kelly Rose of York wins the 2025 Gold Star Memorial 5K in 19:27.
Taylor Mauro of York was second in 21:46.
John Ford of Phoenix, MD was third overall in 18:00.
Margaret Moore of York ran 27:44 in a competitive 70+ category.
“Speedo Mike” Mike Womelsdorf of Etters was tenth in 20:30.
Seamus George of York ran 21:50 coming off York Suburban baseball season. He had the best batting average on his baseball team.
Ryan George of York, early in the event. Like his brothers, he does XC, basketball, and baseball.
Matthew and Janice Wright of Pylesville, MD get some help from Duane Diegel of Abingdon, MD in the Gold Star Memorial 5K.
Ava Long of York was eighth overall in 25:18.
Hal Darr of York #1000 is on the home stretch of completing his one thousandth race lifetime. As usual Hal is running with women LOL. Kathy Mensinger #111 of Hanover is the only one of the three that I can ID.
Lynn Fuhrman of Seven Valleys and Heather Roe of York are rather inseparable as friends and racers. Lynn was 4th in 24:10. Heather was fifth and top master in 24:32.
Amanda Summers of York gets some help on her way to a 27:04.
David Rizzuto of York was sixth overall and top master in 18:46. He’s 59, so look out for Dave in 2026.
Bob Breighner earned an award in the 55-59 wearing the race shirt.
Fallyn Mackison of Seven Valleys earned a 15-19 award in 27:59.
John Crone completes the Gold Star Memorial 5k with the United States flag.
