Berwick, PA, November 28, 2024—Paige Wood of Flagstaff, AZ won the 115th Run for the Diamonds in a convincing manner to break her own course record (49:05 in 2021 as Paige Stoner). Wood ran 48:38 to not only earn the diamonds, but $3,000 for setting a new course record. Wood trains with the NAZ Elite Hoka team in Flagstaff and is a native of Pottsville, PA.
Casey Ellis of Towanda, PA won his first Diamonds Run as he dropped five-time champion Matt Gillette and others on the famed hill at Foundryville on the way to the summit. Ellis ran alone the rest of the way in the cold rain to win in 45:08.
Five-time champion Matt Gillette of Allentown was second in 45:48. Alex Price of Bethlehem was third in 46:09. Gregory Jaindl of Macungie was fourth in 46:21. Shane Houghton of Easton was fifth in 47:09. Michael McCann of Moscow, PA was sixth in 47:27. Ciaran Fisher of Marion Heights, PA and Danbury, CT won his first diamond and took seventh place in 48:05. The top seven overall women and men earn diamonds.
Ellen Feringa of Philadelphia was the second woman in 52:06, which places her 16th on the All-Time list. Laurel Moyer of Lock Haven, PA was third in 54:11. Autumn Sands of Greenbelt, MD was fourth in 54:17. Three-time champion Marina Martino of Dallas, PA was fifth in 54:58. Two-time champion Zöe Matherne of Philadelphia was sixth in 55:32. Carly Danoski of Clarks Summit, PA was seventh in 55:40.
Earning the diamonds and red jackets were Saro Girotto of Wynnewood, PA in 59:16, in the masters (40) category. Ann Balonis of Swoyersville, PA ran 1:04:07 to earn the veterans (50) award. Kate Fisher of Watsontown, PA ran 1:10:42 and was a repeat winner in the seniors (60) category; she ran faster in 2024 than in 2023. Dianna Golden of Frankford, DE ran 1:14:48 to earn the seniors 70+ award.
While three of the four women’s masters’ awards were repeat winners, it was all newcomers in the men’s categories. Fabian Daza of Cliffside Park, NJ was top master (40) in 49:14. Jeff Miller of Lewistown, PA was tops in the veterans (50) in 54:00. Philip Garland of Lancaster ran 58:14 to win a competitive seniors (60) category. Jim Pearson of Russell, PA won the seniors 70+ in 1:11:52.
1056 finished the rainy, cold 115th running of the Berwick Run for The Diamonds in Berwick, PA. A special shout out to three men that have run over 50 Diamond runs. Chris Aurand completed his 52nd and did a great talk at the Wednesday night pasta feed. Bill Bull completed his 51st and Roger Davis completed his 50th. Carmella DiPippa is rocking women’s leaders list with 41.
