By Clay Shaw and Karen Mitchell

New York, NY, November 2, 2024—Annie Rodenfels of Boston repeated as the women’s champion of the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K in New York City, winning by five seconds in 15:20.  Rodenfels ran two seconds faster than in her 2023 victory.  The race runs point-to-point from midtown Manhattan to the New York City Marathon finish line.

Emily Venters of Salt Lake City, Utah was second in 15:25.  Emma Grace Hurley of Indianapolis was third in 15:31.

Ahmed Muhumed of Flagstaff, AZ who was second in 2023, took charge mid-race and went on to the 2024 victory in 13:38.  The short-distance specialists were closing, but Muhumed was elated with the close win.  Sam Prakel of Seattle was second in 13:39 and Brian Barraza of Boulder moved up from fifth in 2023 to third in 2024 in 13:42.

This race also served as the USATF 5K road championships.  With her 3rd place finish here, Emma Grace Hurley of Indianapolis also earned the win and a nice cash prize in the 2024 USATF Running Circuit.  The circuit has eleven events and Emma Grace finished eight of the eleven with results that earned her the top spot in the running circuit.

There were 9874 total finishers in the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K. Prior to the elite finish were the USATF U20 (under 20-years-old) 5K Championships that were won by Zariel Macchia in 17:27 and Tyler Mogavero in 16:11.
