Rose and Bridgeforth Win Harrisburg Half Marathon

Story and Photos by Clay Shaw

Harrisburg, PA, September 8, 2024—In a more exciting race than she would probably like, Kelly Rose of Dover, PA who led nearly the entire way, won in 1:31:24.07.  Christina Thompson of Pittsburgh came charging toward the finish, only to be one step short, finishing in 1:31:24.97.  With normal rounding up protocol, both women are given a 1:31:25 official time.  Note Runner’s Gazette uses the rounded-up gun times from race results.

Rachel Aslan of Camp Hill was third and top master in 1:33:07.  Lydia Drabik of Malvern, PA was fourth in 1:33:36.  Lindsey Bernhard of Harrisburg was fifth in 1:37:24.

Seth Bridgeforth of Harrisburg was the overall winner in 1:13:57, as he ran in a 3-man pack for much of the race.  Master’s standouts Paul Hayes of Dillsburg, who was second in 1:14:00 and Cem Aslan of Camp Hill, who was third in 1:14:03, gave Bridgeforth a lot of company through the footpaths and bridges of Harrisburg.  A fourth person who ran much of the race with these three men did not have a race number.  Christopher Kuhl of Dillsburg was fourth in 1:18:16. Elias Dimitrakopoulos of Harrisburg was fifth in 1:19:06.  These five were the only runners under 1:20 in the race.

The Harrisburg Half Marathon changed the course to a City Island start/finish with no running on Front Street this year.  505 finished the half marathon. A companion 10K was held as well with 211 finishing.  Winning were Mary Fuller of Camp Hill in 40:22 and Bob Yonick, also from Camp Hill, in 36:34.
