Amish Country, Lancaster, PA, September 7, 2024—On a great day for running the Eastern Lancaster County hills, Jacob Riley of Blairstown, NJ won in 1:11:34 as did Zoe Jarvis of Dover, PA who triumphed in 1:23:54.
The Bird-In-Hand running events benefit the Bird-In-Hand Fire Department. This was the thirteenth year for the event starting in 2011 in similar structure. A 2010 race held in November, was organized by an out-of-state for-profit entity for that year only. Since 2011, the races have grown and there were 1702 finishers in 2024. The Friday night 5K had 1285 finishers. Good times and good food follow the running.
Zoe Jarvis of Dover, PA, a former University of Tampa runner, won in 1:23:34. Nicole Salerno of Bayville, NY was second in 1:28:22. Teal Liu of Hershey was third in 1:33:38. Victoria Anderson of Lebanon, PA was fourth and top master in 1:33:59.
Jacob Riley of Blairstown, NJ, who ran for Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, was the overall men’s winner by over two minutes, winning in 1:13:52. (Riley is not the Jake Riley who was on the 2020 USA Olympic Marathon team.) Timothy Purcell of Pittsburgh was second in 1:13:32. Tyler Muse of Salisbury, MD was third in 1:17:06. Muse won the 2021 race in 1:10:44. The first master was Matthew Brill of Phoenixville, PA in 1:26:44; he was fifteenth.
Alyssa Lapp of Lititz and Mariana Huyard of Lancaster ran together and likely planned their outfits.

Matthew Brill of Phoenixville, PA was top master in 1:26:44 and fifteenth overall.

Mikaela Endy #3459 of Gilbertsville, PA and Victoria Anderson #3034 of Lebanon run together near mile two. Endy placed eleventh in 1:38:33. Anderson was fourth and top master in 1:33:59.
