June 8, 2024, New York, NY—Senbere Teferi accomplished a three-peat at the Mastercard New York Mini 10k. Teferi won her third straight with a 30:47 win. She had company for most of the race, with 2022 NYC Marathon champ Sharon Lokedi and Sheila Chepkirui, both of Kenya, running in a three-woman pack. On a downhill at 5.4 miles, Teferi surged and broke the race open to win by 17 seconds.
Sharon Lokedi was second in 31:04. Sheila Chepkirui was third in 31:09.
Amanda Vestri of Boone, NC was fourth and top American in 31:17. Jessica McClain of Phoenix was fifth in 31:42. The elite field was extremely competitive, witnessing the fight between Emily Durgin of Flagstaff, AZ and Annie Frisbie of Burnside, MN for sixth overall and third American. Both fought hard to the line and were timed at 31:49, with Emily getting there by an inch or two for sixth.
Master stars included two-time Mini 10K champ Sara Hall of Flagstaff, AZ who was 11th in 32:14 and top master. Olga Firsova of Australia was 18th in 33:19 and second master. Legendary marathoner Edna Kiplagat of Kenya (and Longmont, CO) was 21st and third master in 34:03.
The 52nd running of the Mastercard New York Mini 10k had 9,688 finishers. The name “mini” comes from the mini-skirt, popular when the race started in 1970’s (not mini, as shorter than the marathon, half-marathon etc.). The race started on Central Park West at 89th Street and entered Central Park at 72nd street and circled the park, with a nice sunny spot for photos on the 72nd street transverse.

Sharon Lokedi of Kenya, the 2022 NYC Marathon champion, was second in the Mini 10k in 31:04.
Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya was third in the Mini 10k in 31:09.
Amanda Vestri of Boone, NC was top American and fourth overall in 31:17.
Jessica McClain of Phoenix, AZ was fifth in 31:22 and second American in the Mini 10k.
Emily Durgin of Flagstaff, AZ fights for every step, finishing in sixth place in 31:49.
Annie Frisbie of Hopkins, MN finishes seventh in 31:49
USA Marathon Olympian Dakotah Lindwurm of Burnsville, MN was eighth in 31:58.
USA Marathon record holder and 2024 Olympian Emily Sisson of Flagstaff, AZ was ninth in 32:08.
Emma Grace Hurley of Indianapolis, IN was tenth in 32:11.
Sara Hall of Flagstaff, AZ was eleventh in 32:14 and top master. Hall is a two-time Mini champion, winning in 2019 and 2021.
Susanna Sullivan of Reston, VA was twelfth in 32:18. Susanna represented the USA in the World Champs Marathon in Budapest in 2023.
Lily Partridge of Farnham, England was 13th in 32:51.
Olga Firsova of Australia was 18th and second master in 33:19.
Edna Kiplagat of Kenya and Longmont, CO was third master and 21st overall in 34:03.
