Washington, DC, April 6, 2024—The second running of the CUCB 5K presented by Asics saw a big increase in participation, as 6,961 of the registrants crossed the finish line. The course is rather DC epic with a start/finish at Freedom Plaza on Pennsylvania Avenue. The runners head toward The Capitol before going south on 3rd St NW with views of the Capitol and Washington Monument on both sides, going and coming.
Casey Greenwalt of Washington, DC, as she did in 2023, ran in second place most of the race and then kicked to victory for the second straight year. Her winning time was 18:14. Nilani Duarte of Fairfax, VA, who led most of the race was second in 18:17. 14-year-old Sita Lamartin of Alexandria, VA was third in 19:23.
Jonathan Ladson of Woodbridge, VA led the way in 16:09. Ladson also ran the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler the following day. Sacha Salphati of Philadelphia moved up throughout the race to earn second in 16:21. Will Baxley of Arlington, VA was third in 16:22.
