1.20.2024 Mechanicsville, VA, 2024 USATF National Cross Country Championships—Forest Braden of Williamsburg, VA and the Colonial Runners Club took charge on the long, straight start at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Braden, coach at the College of William & Mary, led from start to finish, winning in 25:35. Brian Flynn of the Garden State Track Club ran in second the entire way and finished in 25:52. Braden’s teammate Adam Otstot was third in 26:19. Matthew Barresi of Ragged Mountain Running was fourth in 26:55. David Angell of the Blacksburg Striders was fifth in 27:05.
By far the largest race of the day, 176 men finished the Masters Men 8K. Rusty Snow of Santa Barbara was 12th in 27:29 and won the 50-54 group. Tim Harte of Greater Philadelphia TC was 23rd in 28:35 and won 55-59 group. Nat Larson of Greater Springfield was 26th in 28:52 and took the 60-64 group. Prete Gibson of the Tidewater Striders was 68th in 31:25 and won the 65-69 group. Robert Qualls of Reno, Nevada was 112th in 34:25 and won the 70-74 group. Gene Dykes of Greater Philadelphia won the 75-79 in 37:39 and Jim Assal of Greater Philadelphia was tops in the 80+ group in 54:24.

The USATF National Cross Country Championships masters men 8K race was by far the largest race of the day with 176 finishers. The Colonial Road Runners in orange dominate the start photo.
Dojo Racing from DC run in a group with Joshua Sohn #417, Bradley Klapper #419, Jason Dwyer #416, and Timothy Greszler #420 all running solid races.
David Westenberg #436 of Greater Lowell is following by a group of Blacksburg Striders including Kevin Byrd #372, Ignacio Moore #376, and Durelle Scott #375.
Charlie Ban of Pacers Running/GRC was seventh overall in 27:10. Ban is editor-in-chief at RunWashington.
Tim Harte of Greater Philadelphia was tops in the 55-59 group and was 23rd overall in 28:35.
Forest Braden #396 took over from the start and powered to victory, with Brian Flynn of Garden State TC holding second, and Braden’s teammate Adam Otstot earning third overall.
Joe Devreese of Santa Barbara Racing and Tim Schuler #427 of F & M Track Club race in the USATF XC Masters Men 8K.
Marcel Mejia Perez of Santa Barbara Racing was 27th in 28:54.
Mark Zamek #512 of Shore AC was just three seconds back of the 60-64 win in 28:55. John Sharp #424 of Endorphin Fitness was 42nd in 29:42.
Rusty Snow of Santa Barbara Racing was twelfth overall in 27:29 and won the 50-54 group.
William Christian was ninth in 27:15, as the Colonial Road Runners had three in the top ten.

Charlie Ban, an all-around good guy in our sport, was seventh overall in 27:10.
William Palmer #488 and teammate Charlie Hurt #486 representing Ragged Mountain Running (Charlottesville, VA) take 13th and 14th place in 27:43 and 27:44.
Larry Rechtin of Great Philadelphia TC was 81st in 32:00.
Gene Dykes of Greater Philadelphia TC now 75, wins the 75-79 age group. His running and ultrarunning schedule is simply amazing.
Robert Qualls of Reno NV is very cold and well dressed, and he rocked an age group win with a 34:25 to win the 70-74 group.
