January 20, 2024, Mechanicsville, VA, 2024 USATF Cross Country Championships—Cooper Teare, known more for 1500-meter through 5000-meter prowess, used his speed to power to victory in 29:07.

A massive lead group stayed very close together through much of the first three-quarters of the race. Morgan Pearson, the Boulder based triathlete (who won Club XC in Bethlehem PA in 2019), took the lead on the next to final lap, and broke open the big lead pack.  The final lap turned out to be the fastest of the day as there was a mad scramble to place in the top six.

Cooper Teare took over the lead and powered down the home stretch to win in 29:07.  Anthony Rotich of Colorado Springs was second in 29:12. Ahmed Muhumed of Flagstaff, AZ was third in 29:13. Morgan Pearson of Boulder was fourth in 29:16 and declined his World XC spot to focus on the Paris Olympic Triathlon, for which he is already qualified.  Emmanuel Bor of Colorado Springs, CO was fifth in 29:27. Christian Allen of West Jordan, UT was sixth in 29:28.  Seventh place Reid Buchanan of San Diego, who finished in 29:29, will go in place of Pearson.  Buchanan, Rotich, and Bor wore the USA vests at World XC in Bathurst, Australia in 2023.

91 men ran the 2024 USATF Cross Country Championships at Pole Green Park just outside of Richmond, VA in Mechanicsville.  Both the 2023 and 2024 events were hosted at Pole Green Park by the Richmond Cross Country Festival (RVAXCFestival) and both served as qualifiers for World Athletics World Cross Country.  COVID delayed World XC from 2021 to 2022 to 2023 in Australia, and this year’s World Cross will be in Belgrade, Serbia on March 30, 2024.  Tallahassee, FL will host World Cross in January 2026.
