Yann Schrub of France, who had dozens of supporters, thrilled the crowd with his 30:17 victory at Laeken Park under the shadow of the famous Atomium. Schrub, who was sixth in the 2021 Euro XC in Dublin, was steady and patient as he held back on the earlier laps allowing others to lead. Schub marked the leaders and finally took over on the last lap. Magnus Tuv Myhre of Norway was second in 30:22. Robin Hendrix of Belgium was a happy third place finisher in 30:22, as he also worked his way up through the standings during the tough slog through the mud. Hugo Milner of Great Britain, who had the lead much of the race, was fourth in 30:27. Tadesse Getahon of Israel was fifth in 30:33. John Heymans of Belgium was sixth in 30:34, as Belgium won the team championship.

And while the predicted heavy rain (fortunately) held off during all of the events, it began in earnest immediately following this last event of the day.
