November 4, 2023, New York, NY—Annie Rodenfels of Boston has been on a roll and recently got married. In NYC she won the USATF 5K Road Championships, also known as the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line, in 15:22. Rodenfels stayed smartly in the hunt after last year’s winner Weini Kelati and marathon ace Keira D’Amato had early leads. Rodenfels pushed the pace on the Central Park section to win easily. Rachel Smith of Flagstaff, AZ was second in 15:26. The 2021 Tokyo Olympian was delighted with her podium finish. Equally delighted was third place finisher and Rodenfels’ BAA teammate Bethany Hasz, who ran 15:27. Marathon runner and USA half marathon record holder Keira D’Amato of Midlothian, VA was fourth in 15:28, as she begins her build-up for the Orlando Olympic Marathon Trials. Last year’s champ Weini Kelati was fifth in 15:30.
Morgan Beadlescomb of Ann Arbor, MI won the USATF Road Championships in 13:44. We saw him triumph at the BAA 5K in April, just prior to the Boston Marathon. As usual, it was a kickers’ race and Beadlescomb had the best form today. Ahmed Muhumed of Flagstaff, AZ was second in 13:47. Tai Dinger of Boulder, CO kicked past two competitors to take third in 13:47. Daniel Schaffer of Boone, NC was fourth in 13:47. Brian Barraza of Boulder, CO was fifth in 13:48.
The USATF Youth 5K Championships were won by Zariel Macchia, 17, of Shirley, NY who ran 17:27. Zariel was on the USA U20 Bronze medal winning team in Bathurst, Australia in February. She was 19th overall at World XC Bathurst 2023. Patrick Noonan, 15, of Haverhill, MA topped the boys in 15:53. By the time all the racing had been completed from the UN Building to Central Park’s finish line, over 10,100 participants had finished.
