October 14, 2023 Baltimore, MD—Emily Royston of Waunakee, WI was the women’s champion in 2:52:25.  It was her first marathon and her first trip to Baltimore.  Her quote prior to the event: “I have never been to Baltimore, and I can’t think of a better way to explore the city than to run a marathon there!” Royston ran a 1:18 at the NYC Half Marathon in March.

Julia Roman-Duval of Columbia, MD, the 2018 and 2022 Baltimore Marathon champion, was second in 3:05:13.  Katie Shy of Baltimore earned third overall in 3:06:13.

Zachary Ripley of Rockford, MI ran 2:28:13 through the rainy streets of Baltimore to earn the win, accompanied by three Under Armour pacers and 2022 champ Robert Creese through the first part of the race.  Ripley, with a 2:16:35 PB, is a 3-time USA Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier.

Marcus Hershberger, 40, of Baltimore was top master and second overall in 2:34:02.  Daniel Rowe of Baltimore was third in 2:35:23. 2022 champ Robert Creese of Mt Airy, MD finished fourth in 2:35:36.  Graham Peck of Baltimore finished sixth all alone in 2:43:12, so he enjoyed interacting with the crowd and did 10 push-ups before crossing the finish.

1655 finished the marathon which had rain for the first time in event history.  One year I missed was 2015; I watched it on TV from California. I also missed 2021 on the Baltimore/Chicago/Boston weekend. I don’t think it rained either of those two years.  For much of the early events and the first part of the marathon, it was dry.
