Ophelia dominated the weekend, but the race directors improvised and the volunteers did their jobs despite the rain and wind. The runners raced in Downtown York.

Samuel Gerstenbacher of Lancaster won his third York White Rose Run in a row with a time of 24:44, winning by over a minute. Logan Horst of Mechanicsburg was second in 25:51. David Rumsey of Harrisburg was third in 25:52. Ciaran Fisher of Marion Heights, PA was fourth again, in 26:03.  Chris McCabe of Boiling Springs was fifth in 26:03.  Matt Marcini of York was the top master in 27:34; Eric Ferree of Dallastown was second master in 28:53.

Leah Navarro of Seven Valleys, age 14, was able to run White Rose, as her coach canceled XC practice due to Ophelia.  Nicole Register of Jacobus was second in 32:45.  Sarah Wenger of Dallastown was third overall and top master in 33:38.  Kristen Guerrini of York was fourth and second master in 36:14.  Shannon California of York was fifth overall and third master in 36:55.  (Note for editorial purposes: The top five are given the cash awards for both categories, while the race award caps go to masters, starting with those not in the top five overall. Confusing, yes, but it works better this way.)

Age group aces included Dianna Golden of Frankford, DE who won the 70 age group in 40:24 and she was 13th overall.  A former York resident, Dianna is one of only six local women ever to break three hours in a marathon.  Margaret Moore of York was second in 44:16.  Sherry Leisher, age 54 of Harrisburg, was seventh overall in 38:04 and the first master not in the top five overall.

On the men’s side Walter Newcomer of Manheim, age 67, ran 34:06 and was 24th overall; 1983 champ Greg Cauller of York, age 63, ran 34:32 and was 26th overall.  Don Morrison of Coatesville ran 37:56 at age 73 and was 44th overall.  Norm Drasher of Aspers, PA, age 81, ran 57:23.

The F & M Racing Team from Lancaster won the team title in 2:12:06, their runners placing 1-4-7-11 and 12.  S.W.I.F.T from Mechanicsburg was a close second in 2:15:00. Their placings were 2-6-9-14-15.  Flying Feet of York was third, led by Matt Marcini and four awesome women which included female stroller winner Rebecca Doner of Mt. Wolf in 39:27, and the two seventy-year-olds, Golden and Moore.  Ryan California State Farm not only sponsored the YWRR, but had an awesome team that included the fifth place overall woman, Shannon California.  Athletes Serving Athletes was fifth; it’s always good to see them.  Team Elite, also a sponsor, was sixth.

Chris Bertini of Camp Hill was the male stroller winner in 37:26.  Rebecca Doner of Mt Wolf, as mentioned before, was the first female stroller runner, pushing two children in 39:27.

This was the 46th running of the York White Rose Run. Thanks and kudos to Karen Lam-Duckett and Erin Dubs on their race directing and to all the course captains and volunteers, sponsors and the White Rose Bar & Grill, our host.
