September 17, 2023, Philadelphia, PA—For the third year, the Philadelphia Distance Run is back in the ownership of Philadelphians.

Erika Kemp of Providence, RI won the half marathon in 1:10:32.  Before the race she told us she might win, and afterwards, more relaxed, she said she was in good shape. She had spoken to her coach the evening before, who told her not to start too fast, but if she felt good to “go for it.” She did!

Catherine Syokau of Kenya was second in 1:11:08.  Fiona O’Keeffe of Chapel Hill, NC was third in 1:11:11.  Joyline Chemutai of Kenya was fourth in 1:12:05.  Marybeth Chelanga of Colorado Springs, CO was fifth in 1:12:07.  Twins Eleanor Mancini and Elizabeth Mancini of Media, PA were sixth (1:13:20) and eighth (1:14:32).  Emeline Delanis of France was seventh in 1:14:11.  The masters winner was Heidi Peoples of Clarks Summit, PA in 1:15:55. Christine Ramsey-Hardy of Austin, TX was second master and 17th overall.  Christine is a former resident of both Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Panuel Mkungo of Kenya won in 1:00:49.  Mkungo, a middle-distance ace, has won several half marathons around the world.  James Ngandu of Kenya, the 2022 PDR champion, was second in 1:01:21.
