Maryland Runners Win Rail Trail 10 Miler

By Clay Shaw

August 27, 2023 York, PA—Alexander Loper of Abingdon, MD won the 25th Rail Trail 10 Miler in 54:59.  The race which starts in Seven Valleys, PA and enters the rail near milepost 11, just 11 miles north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Jody Berinato of Parkville, MD was the women’s champ in 1:09:24. She was top master as well, and only eight men crossed the finish line before her.

Alexander Loper and Ty Stump of Camp Hill had a huge lead by Glatfelter Station (near mile marker two), so I took a few pictures there and headed towards York, as to not miss their finishing kicks.  The rail trail bends right after crossing Grantley, and wanted to be sure that the two non-area runners went the correct way.  York College put a sidewalk there that adds a bit of uncertainty at that point.  Ty Stump would place second in 56:16. The top two men had a lead of nearly six full minutes on the rest of the 250-finisher field.

Eric Ferree of Dallastown was the third overall finisher and first master in 1:02:06.  Shawn Loper of Bel Air, MD was fourth in 1:03:18 and second master.  Anthony Roselli of Wrightsville was fifth overall in 1:05:01.

Kelly Rose of Dover was second female overall in 1:11:11.  Nicole Register of Jacobus was third in 1:11:40.  Sarah Wenger of Dallastown was fourth and second master in 1:12:41.  Annette Flinchbaugh of Hellam, who is 14, was fifth in 1:16:27.
