Canton, OH, July 15, 2023, USATF Women’s 6K Championship—Cross-country aficionado Ednah Kurgat of the US Army team based in Colorado Springs won the third annual USATF Women’s 6K Championship in Canton, OH in 18:31.  Though Kurgat led, the race was quite close throughout.  Nell Rojas of Boulder closed fast to take second in 18:33.  Last year’s runner up Annie Rodenfels of Roslindale, MA was third in 18:34.  Emma Grace Hurley of Atlanta was fourth in 18:36.  Tristin Van Ord of Blowing Rock, NC was fifth in 18:39.

The Women’s 6K is in its third year and back in its mid-July time slot.  Last year the race was moved to the first Saturday in June in order not to conflict with the 2022 World Athletics Track & Field Championships in Eugene, OR.  The elite race draws a mix of marathoners, middle distance runners, and some track specialists.  Newbies to the event likely haven’t raced the 6K since their collegiate cross-country days.  The race is organized by Run to You Racing and gets great support by the Canton community.

The Female Community race was won by Hannah Wymer of Findlay, OH in 20:50.  Amanda Fire of Stow, OH was the top master in 23:34.  The top grand-master was Diana Furey of Malvern, OH in 28:03.  356 women completed the USATF Women’s 6K that started at Malone College and finished at Centennial Plaza in Downtown Canton.
