Amy Sipe and Jacob Roskovensky Win Gold Star Race

by Clay Shaw

York, PA, May 29, 2023,  York Gold Star Memorial Run (2.75 miles)—Supporting the Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing and Peace Garden, York, PA, the event had a record 136 finishers in the timed race.  Many others not included in the race count either biked, ran, or walked the 9-mile Tour de Memorials.

It should have been a 5k; it was measured perfectly, but a volunteer directed the entire field off course, early in the race, missing the needed loop around the Penn State York bookstore building.  Stuff happens.

Amy Sipe of Dallastown, 47, who returned from a triumphant finish in the 2023 World Triathlon Long Distance Championships in Ibiza, Spain, was the champ in 20:21. Amy had a minute and a half cushion on 14-year-old Quinn Kelliher of York, who ran 21:56.  Whitney Pickett of York was third and second master in 22:18.

Jacob Roskovensky, 14, of Dallastown made it a Dallastown sweep with his win.  Jacob won in 16:03.

Richard Guthrie of Philadelphia was second and top master in 16:53. David Mabe of Raleigh, NC was third in 17:03.

York Senior runners stood out in the results, as Margaret Moore, 71, ran 24:18  Armand Meyer, 75, ran 24:37, and Milton Bushey, 81, ran 38:18.

The untimed Tour de Memorials is a wonderful 9-mile tour of all war and peace memorials in the city of York. Many skip the 5K and opt for this tour each year.
