Byrne Cruises to Victory
at WVS Fall Trail Run

BY TOM WALSKI

WYOMING, PA--Rain was in the forecast for the rough trail race, Wyoming Valley Striders' Fall Trail Run, held October 29 at Frances Slocum State Park. But little would have stopped Matt Byrne from cruising to victory in this 30th annual running. Scranton’s Byrne finished a minute and a half before Aaron Stredny to grab the convincing win.

Perennial trail run winner and defending champion Tony Korch had to settle for third place a half-minute behind Stredny.

The first female across the line in the gender- and age-handicap start was Heather Dewees from Dallas, PA in 9th place.

The handicap system made for some close races between runners from different age groups as Melissa Defino (48) beat Daniel Rosa (47) by two seconds, Toshiko Nagase (53) topped Tom Shaver (39) by three seconds, and Jamie Anzalone (36) held off Ron Lozowski (48) by a single second.
