Can’t Hold a Candle to McCandless’ Performance

YORK, PA--Maureen McCandless of Hummelstown, PA dominated the 33rd annual White Rose Run five miler on October 31, 2009 with a time of 28:30, a 5:42 per mile clip. The runner up, Lynn Knothe, Wilmington, DE, was more than five minutes behind in 33:44. Cathy Butler, York, PA, followed closely in 33:49.

The men’s race was much closer with Kenyan Abraham N’getich exchanging a third-place finish in 2008 for a win this time around in 25:17. (He lists his hometown as Mount Vernon, NY.) Mark Stallings of Atglen, PA was second in 25:24, and Matt Wagoner of New Cumberland, PA was third in 25:36.

The top male and female Masters finishers were David Rizzuto in 28:42 (sixth) and Dianna Golden in 34:50 (fifth). Greg Cauller, 50, placed 10th overall in 29:14.

The race attracted 292 runners, despite it being the first year for veteran race director Clay Shaw to step out of the leadership position.

Funds supported the Crispus Attucks Learning Center. It was the final race in the York Hospital Running Series.
