SEAN ROBBINS FINISHES SECOND OVERALL
IN 26:20.
Martino Wins, Cerminaro Impresses
at 33rd Annual Winter’s End

LEHMAN, PA--Last year’s Winter’s End race had weather more like the beginning of spring. In 2013, however, winter was firmly in charge with near freezing temperature and snow and ice covering the course in some places, at the Wyoming Valley Striders 33rd Annual Winter’s End Run, on March 17.

John Martino of Dallas, PA, was the least troubled by conditions as he pulled away from the field at the end of the first mile and held off the stubborn chase by Sean Robbins to win the race on paved, gravel, and snow covered surfaces. Conditions resulted in some of slowest winning times in years.

 FIRST PLACE WOMAN, AMY ROME,
LOOKS STRONG.
Based on her convincing win last year, Kelly Ciravolo looked like the favorite but it was revealed she was five months pregnant and that slowed her considerably. Veteran Amy Rome, also of Dallas, PA stepped up to grab the win over Whitney Lukas by 38 seconds.

Among the top age-group performances was Jermyn, PA’s Tony Cerminaro, turning in 7:29 minute miles at the age of 76 with a time that would have won the 55-59 age group.

The 40-44 age group was the toughest with five runners in the top 15.
