Korir, El Moukin Win Fast Race at

BINGHAMTON, NY--At the 30th anniversary Chris Thater Memorial Run, held on August 25, Leonard Korir of Kenya led the way in 13:47 in one the fastest 5K fields around. Fellow Kenyans Julius Koskei (13:51), and Ernest Kebenei (13:56) were second and third, and Uganda's Harbert Okuti also going under 14 minutes, in fourth place, with a 13:59. In total 19 men broke the 15-minute barrier. A strong Masters race here featured Joseph Ekuom of Kenya winning in 15:38, followed by Mark Andrews of Rochester, NY in 15:46, and Jeff Miller of Lewistown, PA in 15:49.
Rkia El Moukin of Morocco won for the women in 15:27, a new personal best for her. Rkia had a substantial margin of victory over two Ethiopians, Tigest Tufa (15:40), and Konjit Biruk (15:45).
Paula Witse of Brockville, Ontario (Canada) led the Masters
in 17:36, with Emily Bryans of Delanson, NY second in 17:45,
and Lori Kingsley of Wysox, PA third in 17:55.
