Paxton Fest Perfect Family Event

BY JOHN GILL

HARRISBURG, PA--Paxton Ministries held its 16th annual Paxton Fest on Saturday, September 25, 2010. The kickoff event was a two-mile run/walk for all ages, and there were over 40 registrants. Proceeds from the event benefited Paxton Ministries' work of providing long-term, affordable housing and support for adults, many of whom have limited resources and deal with mental-health challenges.

A strong field of runners competed for cash and other prizes, including gift certificates to Inside Track and discount coupons from Road ID. Brian Rosenberg who beat his second place time last year, came in first with a time of 9:58. In second place was Bill Chambers (10:21), and Norm Sheesley (10:25) finished third. The top three female runners were Natalie Stonge (13:19), Kim Engle (13:25), and Kelly Toner (13:44). All runners were eligible for a variety of raffle prizes.

The event would not have been possible without the assistance and support of many partners. A special thanks to Walt Greene of the Harrisburg Area Road Runners Club for overseeing the finish line, to volunteers from the area churches for staffing the course, and to Paxton Ministries staff members Shelva Leep and Hanna Ritch who made sure everything “ran” smoothly on race day

After the run, the day featured live music, a huge chicken barbeque and other food, games, face painting, a petting zoo, horse rides, and tractor rides. Fun and fellowship were enjoyed by all.
