Wagoner, Howard Perfect at Paxton Fest

BY KRISTIN CARPENTER

HARRISBURG, PA--Paxton Ministries held its 15th annual Paxton Fest on Saturday, September 26, 2009. The kickoff event was a 2-mile run/walk for all ages, and there were over 70 registrants. Proceeds from the event benefited Paxton Ministries' work of providing long-term, affordable housing and support for adults, many of whom have limited resources and deal with mental-health challenges.

A strong field of runners competed for cash and other prizes, including gift certificates to Inside Track and discount coupons from Road ID. Matt Wagoner came in first place with a time of 9:44. In second place was Brian Rosenberg (10:24), and Joshua Evans (10:40) finished third. The top three female runners were Samantha Howard (11:00), Wendy Barrett (11:49), and Kim Engle (13:16). All runners were eligible for a variety of raffle prizes.

The event would not have been possible without the assistance and support of many partners. A special thanks to Walt Greene of the Harrisburg Area Road Runners Club for overseeing the finish line, to volunteers from the Harrisburg Discipleship Center for staffing the course, and to Kristin Carpenter of Drayer Physical Therapy Institute for serving as the race coordinator and doing much work behind the scenes.

After the run, the day featured live music, a huge chicken barbeque, and other food, games, face painting, a petting zoo, and tractor rides. Fun and fellowship were enjoyed by all.
