Huddle, Training Partner Sisson Take
Top Two Spots for Women at NYC Half

NY, NY--Molly Huddle, and training partner Emily Sisson, both of Providence, RI ran hard throughout the fast course to eliminate all the world class competition.  Huddle won The NYC Half Marathon held March 19, in 1:08: 19 and Emily Sisson ran 1:08:21 placing second in her first half-marathon.  Diane Nukuri of Burundi placed third in 1:09:13. Nukuri lives and trains in Arizona.  Edna Kiplagat of Kenya was fourth in 1:09:37, Kiplagat would win Boston in April.   Amy Cragg, the USA Olympian, was fifth in 1:09:38.   Interesting note for the sixth place gal, Sarah Lahti of Sweden set a National Record of 1:09:58.  Dot McMahon of the Michigan based Hanson's/Brooks Team was 21st overall, and first Masters in 1:15:40.  McMahon would repeat as Masters champ in Boston in April.


The men started after the women, and caught most of them along the way.  Feyisa Lelisa, of Ethiopia, the Bronze medalist from Rio, won in 1:00:04.  Lelisa, who protested the plight of his Oromo people has lived in the USA since the Rio Olympics.  Lelisa had to battle to win, as Callum Hawkins of Scotland gave him great competition finishing just four seconds back in 1:00:08.  Teshome Mekonen a 21-year-old Ethiopian, took third in 1:00:28.  Abdi Abdirahman of Tuscon, AZ was 15th overall and first Masters in 1:03:22, with Meb Keflezighi of San Diego, CA in as second Masters with a 1:04:55 in 20th overall.   The field was deep with many internationals with solid times and many Pbs.
