Huddle Repeats as Champ while
Sambu Finally Claims First at NYC Half

BY CLAY SHAW

NEW YORK, NY--Molly Huddle repeated as the champ at the United NYC Half Marathon, which was held on March 20, with PR and CR in all-out duel with Joyce Chepkirui of Kenya. Huddle of Providence, RI, and Chepkirui were clocked at 1:07:41 despite the cold (34 degrees) weather, and wind. Diane Nukuri of Burundi and Flagstaff, AZ, ran alone in third, finishing in 1:09:41.

The race was fortunate that the snow that was possible did not happen. Stephen Sambu of Kenya, who was third in 2013, and second in 2015, moved up to the winner's circle with a 1:01:16. Wilson Chebet of Kenya 1:01:35 and Sam Chelanga of Tucson AZ 1:01:43 joined Sambu on the podium.

David Monti, the elite athlete coordinator, does a great job of bringing in top international runners from a variety of countries.

Central Pennsylvania native (now living in Colorado), Neely Spence Gracey finished 10th with a 1:13:17 with a good tune-up for her marathon debut in Boston.
