COOK FOREST STATE PARK, PA--More than 500 runners enjoyed perfect running conditions at the Clarion River Half-Marathon on April 1. Four hundred eighty-two runners and two wheelchair competitors completed the 13.1-mile race course along the beautiful Clarion River. Sixty-nine runners of all ages finished the two-mile fun run held on Tom's Run Road.

Andy Herr, 34, of Latrobe, successfully defended his first place title. Despite an injury last year, Herr ran a 5:28 minute per mile pace, finishing in 1:11:33. On May 7, he will compete in the Men's Olympic Marathon Trials in Pittsburgh.

Holly McIlvaine, 26, of Erie, won the women's division in 1:23:06, more than two minutes faster than her nearest competitor.

Two wheelchair racers competed in this year's race with Brad Ramage edging out course record holder Mark Graham by 25 seconds. Ramage's time was 1:18:10.

Masters runner Cindy Grimm, 48, of Industry, continued her streak of Masters wins with a time of 1:34:48. Grimm set the course record for Masters women in 1992 with her time then of 1:26:19. Dominic Wyzomirski, 40, of Allison Park, won the Masters division for men in 1:16:29.

Runners from Clarion, Jefferson, and Forest Counties received awards also. Doug Craft, 39, of Punxsutawney, was first Tri-County male with a time of 1:16:26. He was fifth overall. Sharon McKenny, 23, of Clarion was first Tri-County female in 1:33:36. McKenny was fourth female overall.

In the two-mile fun run, David Ruth, 15, won in 12:27. April Moser, also 15, of Brookville, was first female with a time of 15:06.

Awards consisted of stoneware pottery from New Salem Stoneware of Cooksburg. Open and Masters winners also received gift certificates from Clarion River Lodge, Gateway Lodge, and Cook Riverside Cabins.

The race was directed by Keith Hileman and coordinated by members of the Clarion River Runners Club. Sponsors of the race were Ron Seidle Chevrolet of Clarion and Cook Forest Vacation Bureau. Davis Cookie Company donated cookies to all of the runners.
