Greg Fredericks, State College, PA, breaks Jeff Bradley's record of 1:04:36 by running a sizzling 1:03.56. Fredericks finishes over four minutes ahead of runner-up Joe McCool (1:08:26). Jeff Brandt takes third in 1:08:56.

Vicky Kraft, Elkins Park, PA, is top woman in 1:23:00. York, PA's Loretta Claiborne is second in 1:27:59. Sue Baskill of Dover, PA, rounds out the top three with a 1:30:04.

Gordon Sanders, Dayton, OH, establishes a new record with 23:58, eclipsing Randy Haas's mark of 24:56 set in 1987. Kevin Ruch (24:05) and John Doub (24:13) are second and third.

RG Writer-at-Large Herb Townsend takes top honors in the 50-59 category with a 28:54.

First woman Shelly Steely also sets a new record with a 27:53. Cindy James finishes second in 28:22 and Patty Weldon takes third (28:40)..

Spirit of Gettysburg 5K, Gettysburg, PA
July 9, 1994

Olympian Steve Spence of Shippensburg, PA, wins the battle of Gettysburg and finishes with a new record time of 14:22. Steve Taylor grabs second with a 14:41, 3 seconds ahead of third place finisher Moncif Majid (14:44).

Maria Pazarentzos, Hagerstown, MD, wins for the women with a 17:18. Connie Buckwalter (17:30) and Shelley Burns (17:53) are second and third.

RG Senior Writer/Editor Bernie Greene finishes in 18:54, the 100th runner and third in the 50-54 age group.

Also noted in the age-group results of the Drachen Fire 5K, held in Williamsburg, VA, on May 21:
Bernie Greene (18:34) is second in the 50-54 age group, two seconds ahead of Robert Price who claims third in 18:36. Ben Dyer, top 50-54 finisher sets a new age-group record of 17:43.
